After over 4 years of using essential oils we have quite a few empty bottles stored .
Here are some fun things to do with empty bottles:
* Store in a fun container as a fun decoration and conversation starter (see above)
* Add some carrier oil and share with someone else
* Add 3-5 or so drops, fill the rest with carrier and use for a ready-to-use diluted bottle for children
* Take the bottle into a hot shower with you, rinse out, and enjoy some aromatherapy
* Fill with water, shake well, add a spray top and use as a room spray, bug repellant, perfume, etc.
* For immune strengthening blends, fill with water, add a spray top and use as a hand/surface cleaning spray
* Place the empty bottles upside down in some epsom salt to make some yummy bath salts
* Run a bottle through the dishwasher for great smelling dishes and a clean bottle that can then be reused
* Once cleaned out use them to make your own custom blends
* Fill with water and add to your water-based diffuser
* Citrus oils: fill with water, shake well and add to a large glass of water
* Use them to play “guess that oil” with your children. Fun and great for sensory development.
* Christmas lights anyone? Just remove the cap and push the light carefully through the orifice. (Rinse bottles well with hot water. Use LED since they run cooler)

Mechelle Miracle says
I think a recycle program would be a great idea. If doTerra would offer a recycle program where we could return empty bottles and for every ?# bottles returned we get a free bottle of something or collect points toward a free product. Surely doTerra could reuse the bottles. Just a thought.
Kendra says
I’ve wrote in to Customer Service with that recommendation! The more people who email about this and show a desire, I bet they will come up with something.
makala says
That is a great idea! I’m quite new to the oils but have wondered what to do with the bottles. I’m going to email that suggestion as well
Malia Chow says
The environment is very important to me. I am thinking of discontinuing my long time membership to doTerra because of the plastic caps and containers and lack of a recycling program. I have about 50 30 empty bottles and about 100 more..
Andrea says
döTERRA has actually looked into this and shipping empty bottles back to them has a greater negative impact on the environment than simply recycling them locally with your glass recycling. Or better yet reusing them as mentioned here.
Angi Fetch says
I have thought this for a long time !!!! So surprised they don’t have anything
Natalie Thares says
I totally agree…
Linda says
That’s a great idea!👍🏼
Clyta Spain says
I think doTerra offering a bottle recycling program with discounts/rewards is an amazing idea!
Mandy says
Lemon oil takes the labels off easily.
Michele says
Just open them in a mason jar add boiling water. Enjoy the diffusing, then when cold place that water in your diffuser to use. Labels will come off easy with little or no glue. If there glue scrub off easy. Then bottle can be made into spray bottles for a lot of uses. Spray tops can be order from a lot of stores. I like to order from My Bottle Store. They are in Hawaii but the cheapest shipping I have found for smaller orders.
Sherie says
Yes, soak them overnight in a pan of soapy water. Just use your regular dish soap and the labels peal of pretty easy.
Paula Thornton says
I use mine as roller bottle gifts and with spray tops for breath spray gifts (always have one in my purse).
Heather says
What are breath spray gifts?
Karo says
You can use wintergreen, peppermint or spearmint and make your own breath freshener spray. Then give it to friends/family as a gift. I gift hand sanitizers and bug repellant.
Andrea Altenhof says
I use an empty slim & sassy oil bottle to carry S&S gels, empty lavender for triease, etc. also use for blends or diluted oils. A recycling/rewards program would be great.
May says
Wow, I never thought about putting triease gel caps in a lavender oil bottle! I didn’t even realize they would fit through the opening.
Healing in our Homes says
Isnt that cool?!?!
Gwen says
Sometimes I can’t get the smell out. I’ve tried soaking with alcohol. Any recommendations.
Just some smells don’t compliment others.
Mary says
Try boiling the bottles to release more of the smell and residual oils.
linda says
I can’t see how you managed to keep the lights in the bottles. Did you use something to hold them inside? I love this idea.
Healing in our Homes says
they stay in when pushed through the white orifice diffuser 🙂
Marieka says
Where can you get just spray tops/roller tops to add to the bottle?
Healing in our Homes says

Christy Allen says
I wonder if this would give the night air a fresh oily scent??
Donna says
After you wash them out use them to bring your favorite shampoos and lotions as travel size toiletry bottles.
counterstrike says
I love the knowledge on your websites. Thanks!.
Christy Allen says
I fill a jar of Epsom salts and cram the empty bottles in there and then use the salt for baths or scrubs.
Katia G says
Hi. I hope all is well,
I was wondering where to get the roller balls and top spray for the bottle? I am interested, since I am changing to everything natural.
Thanking you in advance.
Margaux says
Use them for plant propagation or flower buds.
