(This has nothing to do with essential oils except that I needed some to calm me down after this ordeal!)<\/p>\n

Over 5 years ago our dryer was smoking and it turned out we had a terrible build up of lint in the duct leading outside.\u00a0 That house is 57 years old and a hot mess and I NEVER expected to have the same issue in our new well-kept house that is only 11 years old. But ……we did. Last week. And it was worse.<\/p>\n

Im so thankful I chose the washer and dryer I wanted (after 3 days of research of course!) because the dryer kept quitting and giving us a code. When I looked it up it said it meant that over 90% of the vent to the outside was blocked. WHAT?!?! We seriously couldnt believe we were doing this all over again. This vent runs up inside the wall, through the attic, so we would may have never known there was such a huge issue. It runs straight up the wall (12ft ceilings) and up through the attic to the room (another 20ft or so). I spent 2 hours in the attic taking it apart and trying to find where it was blocked – I was absolutely shocked. SHOCKED at how much lint was in there.<\/p>\n

They used the wrong type of piece on the roof so that it was probably 95% blocked at the roof and for many feet down the tube. They used the wrong type of tubing as well – it should be SMOOTH not with ridges where lint cant catch. The type with ridges is only for where it connects to the back of the dryer. Then it should change to smooth.<\/p>\n

We ended up calling out Dryer Vent Wizards<\/a> to come and inspect everything and put it back together. They rerouted it and used the right materials. They will come back ever few years to clean it out. PLEASE if your dryer doesnt dry well, clothes stay damp, you notice any smell of smoke or notice any dampness around the vent, then please check things out. I highly recommend them. They came the same day, worked quickly and did a fantastic job.<\/p>\n

From their site: “Approximately 15,500 dryer fires occur every year, resulting in 34 deaths, 430 injuries, and more than $209 million in property damages.* Failure to clean dryer vents is cited as the leading contributing factor in clothes dryer fires. Dryer lint is the most common source of ignition. 90% of appliance fires are also dryer related. The risk of fire is equal for both gas-fueled clothes dryers and electric-powered clothes dryers. Even energy efficient dryers cause lint to build up in the vent line.”<\/p>\n

Look at how much lint was in our vent!!!! I broke down at one point, with tears of gratitude, that the old owners were protected. With a different dryer it could have ended a different way for us too. Thankful to the Lord for His protection.\u00a0\"IMG_6571\"<\/p>\n
