doTERRA Collagen Comparison 2

You loved round one of how the new doTERRA collagen compares to other popular brands. I gotten countless requests to look into other companies so I’ve researched 8 more companies for a second comparison chart. Click here to see the first doTERRA collagen comparison chart, learn what collagen is and why the MetaPWR Advantage is so powerful.

Beware of added sugars in collagen

If you limit sugar in your diet, eat keto or are diabetic you need to be extra aware of the sugar content in your collagen. BUT because sugar increases inflammation in the body and decreases immune function, everyone should be aware and choose a collagen without added sugar.

One of my most requested companies was LifeVantage. I was shocked to see that their liquid collagen has apple juice concentrate that gives each serving a whopping 7 grams of sugar. I guess they can label it “0 grams added sugar” because the fruit juice is an ingredient? By my calculations this 1.7oz bottle is over 0.5oz of apple juice concentrate – and its over $5.60 a bottle! Thats a hard pass for me despite the 10 types of collagen their product contains.

Modere collagen shown in my first comparison chart also contains fruit juice concentrates and 2g of sugar per serving. Sugar is counteractive to health.

Heavy Metals in collagen – which companies to avoid

Many have asked me to review Bulletproof and Orgain (sold at costco) collagens. However they have both tested for heavy metals above the FDA allowed limits. So for me they are on the “no way” list and I will not be including them. And while I did include two of Dr Axe’s collagens below, his Ancient Nutrition keto collagen tested for unacceptably high levels of lead and so that one is also not included. See the heavy metal test result graph here and the original source here from the Organic Sellers Association.

Important Note: Most companies do NOT release their testing results. Legally the cadmium, arsenic, lead and mercury limits just have to fall within legal limits but they do not have to be zero. If a products has levels close to those legal limits, and you are consuming it daily, that can still be enough to accumulate and cause health issues. Companies sourcing raw materials well, while they may have negligible amounts occasionally, should not be anywhere near the legal limits. DoTERRA, of course, will never sell collagen that doesn’t pass its strict standards and testing processes.
