Oh toddlers. One minute they are laughing and the next minute they are on the floor in a hot tempered mess of tears and screaming. They need our love and support and they need oils! Here are some ways we can use essential oils for toddlers:

{{{Essential oils should typically be diluted for children, 1 drop to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil is a good rule}}} * Balance – The Grumpy oil aka The Tantrum killer. From a member: “I put it on her and she gets mad and rubs it in as an attempt to get it off – score! It always turns her grumpy attitude around (and she knows it!)” This is our go-to oil for any type of bad attitude (or any age!)

* Frankincense – aka “baby Jesus oil” for calming, bumps and booboos. Toddlers toddle which means toddlers fall. We love having Frankincense around. It calms booboos but also scared little toddler hearts. When in doubt about what oil to use – use Frankincense!

* “Soothing spray”– equal parts Lavender, Melaleuca and Frankincense in spray bottle with Fractionated Coconut oil (FCO) and water. You can also make this in a roller bottle with FCO. This is a favorite on our team and kids love it too! *On Guard – diffuse before and after play dates, preschool, church, etc to strengthen the immune system and cleanse the air

* Lemon – gets off all the gunky messes like gum in the hair, temporary tattoos and even marker off of some surfaces.

* Peaceful blend (diluted) – 6 drops Vetiver, 3 drops Ylang Ylang, 2 drops Frankincense, 1 drop Clary Sage, 1 drop Marjoram in a 10mL roller

* Sleepy oils – Cedarwood (our favorite), Vetiver, Juniper Berry, Lavender*, Serenity* (*for some lavender can cause very vivid or even scary dreams. If that happens switch to another sleepy oil. If your child suffers with nightmares Juniper Berry may help avoid them)

* Lavender & Melaleuca – Great for a bath. Cleanse, calm and relax them at the same time. Also great: the Calming blend, Roman Chamomile, Arborvitae and Frankincense

* In Tune – this is a great blend for the very energetic child who is very busy and can’t focus on any task. This is of course very normal for busy toddlers but some kids need some extra support to calm down at appropriate times.

* Digestzen or Lavender + Orange – for occasional digestive soothing and support. Toddlers eat weird things or go days without eating much and sometimes this leads to discomfort. Apply in a clockwise direction.

* Purify – apply undiluted to splinters or ingrown toe nails to help it work its way out. Also very soothing for bug bites!

* Terrashield – keep those bugs away in the summer! I love this oil and wear it all the time just because it smells good. My daughter has a fear of bugs in her room so we diffuse this oil every night in her room to help her feel safe and protected.

I can’t even imagine our lives without the essential oils we use now. Our children all know that the oils help them and they often know exactly which oil to get for me when something happens. I love that using essential oils helps us teach our children to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and how to take care of themselves holistically.

So if you are a mama where should you start? Click here to learn more about doTERRA and the starter kits I recommend.

Happy Oiling!

Oh toddlers.
